Story Time…
Once upon a time, I had a chess match with my older brother. He was the better player in every aspect. I was on the verge of losing, almost all my pieces were gone, but there was still a “Small Hope!” That one pawn desperately moving forward. Even my bro noticed the momentum! He tried his best to stop it, but he couldn’t. That pawn became a Queen and granted me victory! It completely shocked big bro, and it became the inspiration for this piece.

Design Concept

Deep in the Ocean
One of the highlights of this project was balancing simple illustrations with deep storytelling. I made sure the story had depth by adding layers to the characters. In this piece, the deeper our hero gets into the ocean, the creepier the creatures become, and there is definitely some truth to that in real life!
Hidden Lore
I was once watching a documentary about ancient Rome, and there was a saying: “You haven’t got any scars yet.” By scars, it meant experience, power, and glory! These textures on our hero represent those scars. And there is a turning point in the story that changes everything for our little hero!

Character Development
You can’t have a good protagonist without character development, so here’s a spoiler since you’re reading the case study (hoping you’ve already watched the full piece!).
